And one should recognize its place in the mythos around the founding of the United States, even if some of us after digging through history have found that it seems that people we’re actually more free during colonial times than in early US history (all depending on what you count as “free” of course, but taxes were generally lower). And no, I’m not saying that “the American revolution should never have happened”, I am saying that a critical eye towards cherished historical beliefs is called for though.
Of course, the most important part of the American history that must be reclaimed is the Civil War, and cleaned up from the belief that it was a “noble war”, founded on noble ideals. That is simply a history rewrite, of the kind we have come to be much familiar with in the 20th century.
