Things I do not get – vatican version

Something I really don’t get. Atheists, and assorted believers as well, think the Pope and the Catholic church is a fundamentally backward institution. Fair enough – everyone is entitled to their opinions.

What I do not get is WHY everyone gets so upset when the Pope, following traditional Christianity, speaks out against gay marriage. I mean – what do you expect of the poor man? Is he supposed to say “Errr, well, we sort of changed opinion on this. We now support gay marriage, because, uh, eh, people seem to find it upsetting that we have a traditional view on gender and sexuality. Sorry for all the hazzle, we’ll conform to mainstream atheism from now on”.

Seriously? And furthermore, since you are in no way believers of traditional Christianity, hows about you just don’t care? The modern “intellectual”, unfortunately, is unable to live with the fact that others have different opinions on things. For all the demonizing of Christians constantly being on a crusade to baptize the entire world, I find it hilarious that atheists and politically correct polito-pundits do the EXACT same thing, but instead of trying to tell others what they believe is right, they try to DEMAND that others share their opinions on how life and the world should be.

I say cudos to the Pope for sticking to his guns. And while I firmly believe that the State should not be allowed to have any opinion what-so-ever on which family constellations people choose*, the same does not go for the Church. Because membership in any Church is volountary.

Here be ze Pope.

*Utilitarians, however, may want to look at the statistics regarding gay marriage and the discrepancies vis-a-vis traditional marriage. Luckily, I’m not a utilitarian, so I don’t see how any such statistics could indicate any right of anyone to force people to live their life one way or the other.

The typical liberal has great kinship with any zealot of the Spanish Inquisition. I don’t agree with everything the church says, but the average liberal misses they are just as awful sometimes.

I don’t care much for the Catholic Church, but you are exactly right on this issue. I support gay marriage and would certainly vote for it if there was such a law proposed the state I live in but I don’t go out of my way to try to force my opinion on EVERYONE in the world. Basically, any opinion that differentiates from what the leftist believes in is suddenly evil even when the Pope is just trying to be a traditionalist with his POV.

Actually, I could really care less about marriage and believe it’s degraded into a fraudulent financial contract designed to keep the husband in bondage with all those child support payments if one decides to have a divorce. I don’t understand why any man going Galt, whether you are gay or not would WANT to be married in the first place.
