There are indications that the status quo has lost control of the narrative. What was “fringe” just a few years ago is now becoming widespread in the undergrowth of our society. TPTB are terrified as they see things approaching the mainstream. For good and for bad (there will be some of both), I think this wave will soon reach critical mass.
The new nationalism has begun. The cultural wars are beginning. Let’s hope that this becomes a story about culture and history, and not about race and nationality like in the 30′s. No one wants a real war. We just want our culture back.
And I’m becoming increasingly convinced that those in Europe who hates the State, marxism and the welfare state should start looking to form allegiances with the conservative right. The egalitarian left is doomed, you can’t convince any of those drones. But tell a right nationalist about how the State destroyed culture, and he will become a conservative libertarian.
I’ve never understood the lefts disdain for national patriotism. There has always been a vast gulf between pride in one’s country men, traditions, and history versus the militant nationalism we say during the early 20th century. And even then I would argue that the militant nationalism was the driver for these conflicts, rather, it was simply the sociological manifestation of certain geopolitical realities that existed right before the two world wars.
I think that the disdain for nationalism and patriotism is an integral part of the lefts claim of relevancy. Without the “solidarity of the left” we’d be killing both ourselves and others. The left wants to be seen as the creator and keeper of as well domestic as international peace. Too bad the curtain is dropping fast on marxism.
