At least he does whatever it is he does good. Senator Rand Paul gives back $600,000 to the Treasury after managing his senators office frugally.
Nothing wrong with setting a good example. I suspect this will be the first, last and only example of any senator in the US or anywhere else in the world doing this, ever.
The Paul family hasn’t been rubbing on me too well lately. The whole Ron Paul.com stuff really pissed me off, but good for Rand nonetheless.
I’m still hoping he wins the GOP nomination in 2016 just because he’d make a better president than most right now.
Big deal. The state will simply spend it on something else.
If he really wanted to make headlines, he should have sent the money back to his constituents. Granted, that’s about a dime for each person in Kentucky, but it’s symbolic.
Better yet, put it into an escrow account, invest it in the private market, do this every year he’s in office, and then send it back to the people. It will be great publicity and a dare to the Feds to threaten him for misuse of funds.
I guess he did learn something from his old man after all. However, he needs to go a bit farther and acknowledge that Israel should pay its damn bills and maybe actually propose the shutdown rather than reform of the TSA and various other agencies.
Geoih : Yes, it is a publicity stunt without a doubt. But at least its one that strengthens the point that the government is a bunch of wasteful kleptocrats.
sth_txs : Rand probably learned some, but far from all things from his dad. His neo-con foreign policy is hopeless.
